English Language Institute(ELI)는 SUNY 버팔로 대학교 교육 대학원의 산하 기관으로 1971년 설립되었습니다. ELI는 국제학생들에게 영어 교육은 물론이고 문화 오리엔테이션과 학업 시작 전 훈련 등을 제공합니다. ELI는 미국 대학을 진학하고자 하는 학생들을 대상으로 인텐시브 영어 과정을 운영합니다. 학부와 대학원생 등을 위한 ESL 프로그램이 아카데믹 프로그램 중 하나로 개설되어 있고, 저녁 파트타임이나 전문직을 위한 맞춤 프로그램도 제공합니다. 또한 해외 프로그램으로 언어 학습이나 교사 교육 프로그램을 다른 나라나 버팔로에서 수강할 수 있습니다. ELI는 또한 UB 학위 프로그램을 국제 학생들에게 홍보하는 역할을 하여 국제적이고 문화의 다양성을 갖춘 캠퍼스가 되도록 돕습니다. 또, 대학의 해외 지원 프로그램을 개발하고 지원하는 주요한 역할을 합니다.

Intensive English Program The Intensive English Program offers 25 hours of class instruction each week in all skill areas. The IEP meets the specific language needs of students, particularly those preparing for study at a U.S. college or university. Classes are small and are taught by highly qualified faculty. Special classes and extracurricular activities increase students' opportunities for learning and developing their skills. IEP students seeking admission to the University at Buffalo or another U.S. college or university receive academic advisement and assistance with applications.

The ELI is located in Baldy Hall on the UB North Campus, near the Graduate School of Education, Department of Communication, Department of Linguistics, and Lockwood Library. Students in the ELI programs are fully integrated into campus life. They pay fees and are entitled to the use of all university facilities, including libraries, computer laboratories, and recreational complexes, and they take part in the rich array of activities, both academic and non-academic, available to regular UB students. The city of Buffalo is located in Western New York, across the Niagara River from Canada and only 20 minutes by car from Niagara Falls. Buffalo is approximately one hour by plane from New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington, DC.
