Through the University of Dayton's Intensive English Program, students benefit from a concentrated and intense language program combined with a true American university experience. The University of Dayton’s Intensive English Program aims to introduce language learners to the American culture through continuous interaction with American and foreign students on campus. Through field trips, our Conversation Groups program, intercultural living communities, and involvement in student clubs on campus, our students develop strong English skills preparing them for the university classroom or the work place. We strive to; provide quality instruction and advising that will enable IEP students to develop the English language skills, cultural competencies and conventions necessary for success in American academic contexts; encourage and facilitate participation of IEP students in the broader University of Dayton experience; and assist in the internationalization of the University of Dayton by establishing strong relationships with other university units in order to assist them in recognizing and adapting to the needs of international students as well as to the benefits that they bring to campus. Intensive English Program Each term, courses are offered in Writing/Grammar, Reading/Vocabulary, Oral Communication and Listening/Note-taking. Special Topics courses include writing fluency, speaking fluency, academic success, vocabulary development, culture, etc. Class Schedule Classes are held between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. Full-time IEP students will receive their schedule after IEP Orientation. Each full-time schedule will include 21 hours per week of faculty-led classroom instruction as outlined here: [Levels 1 and 2]

Students in the University of Dayton Intensive English Program receive support both in and out of the classroom. Opportunities to communicate with native U.S. speakers, including other University of Dayton students, are combined with activities on and off campus, providing many options for engaging in U.S. American culture.

Each term, the Intensive English Program offers activities on and off campus just for IEP students. In the past, these events have included trips to local sites like the U.S. Air Force Museum, movie theatres, restaurants, ice skating, local shopping centers, and more. IEP students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about U.S. American culture and explore life off campus. Look for fliers outside the IEP classrooms on the first and second floors of Rike Center.
