AT 학업 전환 프로그램 조건부 입학한 학부생을 위한 새로운 경로 프로그램 우수한 학문적 배경을 가진 유학생은 델라웨어 대학의 학부 과정에 조건부로 입학 할 수 있습니다. 이 학생들은 델라웨어에서 ELI에서 공부함으로써 자신의 학업 영어 실력을 향상시키고 대학 학점을 취득 할 수 있습니다! 조건부 입학한 모든 학부생은 Academic Transitions (AT)을 통해 입학 요건을 충족해야합니다. TOEFL Preparation Course This course meets five hours each week during seven weeks of each session. The course develops students’ test taking skills for the TOEFL examination. Course objectives include:
ㆍFamiliarizing the students with the format and directions of the test;
ㆍFamiliarizing them with the types of questions that are asked in each section;
ㆍIdentifying the weak areas of each student; and
ㆍDeveloping the English language skills that are necessary to be successful on the test. Please note that this course alone does not satisfy the requirements for meeting the minimum hours of study required on a student visa. Most students in the TOEFL preparation course are also enrolled in the Intensive English Program and meet the requirements necessary to obtain a student visa. Emphasis is placed on listening comprehension, grammar, and reading comprehension. The objectives are addressed through exercises that are designed to develop specific areas of English and test taking skills, as well as through practice TOEFL tests. The International TOEFL is offered at the University of Delaware as well as in nearby Philadelphia and Baltimore.
ESL Evening Program This program offers semi-intensive courses in English as a Second Language. Classes are scheduled in the evenings to accommodate the busy schedules of interested clients who work during the day. Schedule The 9-week evening program is offered 4 times per year.

ㆍDays: Mondays and Wednesdays OR on Tuesdays and Thursdays Course and Level Descriptions Two semi-intensive courses address all language skill areas: grammar, listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Three levels of each course are offered. Courses
ㆍUnderstanding and Using Written English concentrates on reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary
ㆍUnderstanding and Using Spoken English concentrates on listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills Levels English I (Beginner to High Beginner): Students in these courses work on developing the basic English skills they need to improve the quality of their daily lives in the U.S. Instruction focuses on all skill areas: grammar, listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary. Lessons are presented in “real life” contexts such as shopping, writing letters and e-messages, using the telephone and reading schedules, instructions, labels, and advertisements (45 hours). English II (Low Intermediate to Intermediate): Students in these courses work on further developing and applying their knowledge of English grammar, pronunciation listening, reading, and pronunciation skills in increasingly diverse situations. Students work with textbooks and “real life” materials such as newspapers and video clips (45 hours). English III (High Intermediate to Advanced): Students study and apply rules of English pronunciation and English grammar as they explore various topics such as cultural differences, the environment and the family. Students work on improving reading, conversation, grammar, writing, listening comprehension and vocabulary skills while working with textbooks, articles from newspapers, audiocassettes and videocassettes (45 hours). (A minimum enrollment of five students is required for each course to be offered.) Au Pair Program Requirements In addition to registering for English I, II or III courses (as described above), au pair students must also register for a 35 hour independent study project. As part of their independent study, au pairs enrolled in the evening courses work with their instructor to develop a proposal to address cultural or work-related topics, such as:

ㆍEducation and child psychology The project must involve outside research, participation in community functions (such as film festivals, theatre productions, county fairs, or craft fairs), and a presentation to the Evening Class on some aspect of the study. Independent projects may require the student to create, conduct, and analyze surveys of Americans as part of their research. Independent studies require au pairs to devote a minimum of 4 hours per week to the project, in addition to any homework assigned as part of the English I, II, or III class.
Accelerated University English Program (AUEP) Students who would like additional ESL preparation before beginning their university studies may also enroll in our Accelerated University English Program (AUEP). AUEP is a full-service pre-academic ESL program. Delaware EFL Teacher Training (DEFT) Since 1985, the ELI has been a leader in short-term EFL teacher training. The Delaware EFL Teacher Training Institute (DEFT) is an intensive four-week certificate program designed to meet the specific needs of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers, supervisors, or teacher trainers. DEFT provides a program of seminars, workshops, class observations, and practica, as well as training in current methods, approaches, and techniques. Program instructors are members of Delaware faculty who have developed their expertise training English teachers in the US and abroad. The United States Department of State and several foreign ministries of education have awarded DEFT grants for training. Course Offerings (20 hours per week) Participants in DEFT may choose from a menu of seminars and workshops to meet their particular needs and interests. In addition, a program of study may be tailored to meet a specific group’s needs. Cultural Program and Activities DEFT also includes an option of cultural and recreational trips, such as day trips to historic Philadelphia, Baltimore, and the Amish country of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and weekend excursions to the Delaware beaches or Pennsylvania ski resorts, depending on the season, and visits to New York City and Washington, DC. American Law and Legal English The University of Delaware’s American Law and Legal English Institute (ALLEI) was established in 1998 to offer international legal professionals training in the American legal system and legal English communication. This program benefits uniquely from the experience of the legal community of the State, particularly from the legal activity of the state’s Court of Chancery, an international center for corporate and commercial legal processes. Much of US corporate litigation takes place in Delaware, and the Delaware Bar Association includes some of the most highly regarded attorneys and judges in the United States, many of whom have served as ALLEI faculty over the years. The four week ALLEI program includes 120 hours of instructional and professional activities, including courses, seminars, legal visitations and cultural activities. ALLEI Courses Courses are taught by experienced lawyers and center on topics in legal theory and practice.

Each housing type contains access to a kitchen and/or is conveniently located near restaurants and cafes off and on campus. ALLEI Groups If you have a group of at least 12 people who are interested in participating in ALLEI, then the ELI may be able to arrange for a special session of the ALLEI program for your group. We will be happy to design a program tailored to meet the needs of your participants.
Executive English Program This three-week course is designed for busy executives and career professionals whose schedules do not permit them to participate in the Institute’s traditional program of study. The program offers language instruction targeted to the client’s linguistic and professional needs and includes a combination of individual and class instruction. The goal is to develop the participant’s English competency specifically for their personal and professional needs. Program Components Program components include instruction by experienced corporate ESL trainers and faculty consisting of:

ㆍSelf-Access-Learning-Center (multi-media) activities: 3 hours per week

ㆍCultural program based on client interest Total hours of instruction for three-week program: 93 (31hrs per week) Curriculum Courses develop listening, speaking, and pronunciation abilities through pair and group activities with other English language learners. Clients will have the opportunity to learn English with other learners from all parts of the globe. The tutoring sessions are designed to reflect the individual professional language needs and objectives of executives and professionals such as leading meetings, conducting negotiations, networking, interviewing, team problem solving, making presentations and speeches, and engaging in cross-cultural business and discourse. For these private tutoring sessions, ELI’s specialized corporate ESL tutors are experienced in providing one-on-one, personalized instruction based on each client’s linguistic needs and goals. Professional Homestays Clients in the Executive English Program may stay in the homes of families whose members are either practicing or retired professionals themselves. A meal plan of two meals per day (breakfast and dinner) is available. The arrangement will provide both language reinforcement and stimulating companionship. Alternatively, clients may request to live in the University’s Innternationale House, designed to host visiting dignitaries, scholars, and professionals from around the world. (see www.TheINNternationale.org) Finally, clients may choose extended-stay suites in nearby hotels participating in the program. A meal plan for the university’s dining facilities is also available for either housing arrangement. Corporate Visits The program provides the opportunity for clients to visit local corporations and businesses to meet with other professionals. Cultural Program A cultural program will be designed with input from each client prior to his or her arrival. Excursions would include trips to local historical sites, with the option for trips to major regional cities like New York City, Washington DC, or Philadelphia. This program is available six times throughout the year (July, September, November, January, March, and May). Flexible scheduling is permitted.
