Welcome to the ESL Institute at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. We are thrilled that you are considering the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UW-L) as your home for higher education. We at the ESL Institute are proud of the excellence our university exhibits in its students, faculty and staff, facilities, and programs. Instructors at the ESL Institute are committed to helping all students improve their English language skills and meet their personal goals, whatever they may be. ESL classes are designed primarily for students who need to improve their English skills for studying at a university. Many of our students have already received conditional acceptance for undergraduate degree study at UW-L and will begin academic study when they have fulfilled the ESL requirement. Students in advanced-level ESL classes may also take university classes during the same semester. Other students are attending the ESL Institute to strengthen their English skills for personal or professional reasons. Our affiliation with UW-L allows our students the opportunity to experience life on a university campus. All ESL students have the chance to participate in social and classroom activities with American students. They also have access to all services provided by the university including professional staff that is available to assist with admissions concerns, with immigration and personal concerns, and with academic advising. The city of La Crosse values its student population. Students find the city large enough to provide them with numerous activities and opportunities throughout the year, but small enough to be friendly, safe, and comfortable. We hope that we will be able to personally welcome you to the ESL Institute at UW-L.
