와트콤 지역 전문대학의 영어 집중 교육 프로그램은 1990년 이래로 대학 교과 과정에서 성공하도록 학생들을 준비시켜 왔습니다. 영어 집중 교육 프로그램은 주당 20시간의 영어 교육과 학생들이 학교 생활에 적응하게 하는 활동 프로그램과 지도 요원을 통한 지원 서비스를 제공합니다. * 지원 및 주택 서비스 학생들이 집에서 멀리 떠나있다는 것을 배려하여 영어 집중 교육 프로그램 직원들은 학생들이 안정을 찾고 새로운 문화에 적응하도록 돕기 위해 지원 및 주택 서비스를 제공합니다. 직원들은, 은행 이용, 여행, 문화적인 적응, 신변 안전 등에 관한 오리엔테이션을 제공합니다. 학생들은 개인 지도와 학사 자문을 받습니다. 학생들은 이웃의 미국인 가정에 체류하거나 현지 대학교의 기숙사에서 지내거나 지도자의 도움을 받아 다른 방안을 모색할 수 있습니다. 이 모든 방안들은 편안하고 안전하며 학생들에게 영어를 하고 미국 문화를 이해할 많은 기회를 제공할 것입니다. * 편입방안 학생들은 영어 집중 교육 프로그램에 등록할 때에 조건부로 대학에 입학 허가를 받습니다. 가장 높은 등급의 영어 집중 교육 프로그램을 이수한 후에 그들은 TOEFL 시험을 치루지 않고 정상적인 대학 프로그램에 입학할 수 있습니다. 학생들이 정상적인 대학 수업을 들으면서 영어 실력을 향상시키도록 돕는 교량 수업을 제공합니다. 수준이 높은 학생들은 첫 해에 정규 수업으로 전환할 수도 있습니다. 어떤 경우에는 학생들이 영어 집중 교육 프로그램과 일반 교과 과정을 같이 들을 수 있습니다. 또한 학생들은 학위 또는 수료증 프로그램을 성공적으로 마치도록 돕는 개인 지도와 자문을 받습니다. 저희 학생들의 대부분은 Western Washington University (WWU), Washington State University (WSU) 및 Central Washington University (CWU)와 같은 대학교와 워싱턴 주 이외의 학교로 편입합니다. 또한 학생들은 사무 행정, 비즈니스, 컴퓨터 지원 전문가, 의료 보조 및 그래픽 디자인과 같은 직업 훈련 과정을 공부할 수도 있습니다. 학생이 오직 영어 실력만 향상시키기를 원하면, 일반 대학 프로그램에 참여하지 않고 영어만 한두 강좌를 공부할 수 있습니다. * 기후 와트콤 카운티는 기후가 온화합니다. 일반적으로 가을과 겨울에는 서늘하고 강우량이 많은데, 벨림햄의 연간 강우량은 30인치 이상입니다. 봄과 여름은 따뜻하고 화창합니다. 이 지역에서 극단적인 기온은 좀처럼 없지만 학생들은 겨울에 한두 차례 눈이 오는 것으로 기대해도 됩니다.

Intensive English Language Program
Intensive English Language Program The WCC English Language Institute (ELI) is an excellent choice for ESL learners for a number of reasons. ELI students have the opportunity to attend classes with people from around the world, as Whatcom hosts international students from more than 25 different countries each year. ELI faculty have Master's degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language or related fields and have many years of experience teaching in the U.S. and overseas. Because the ELI is part of Whatcom Community College, students have access to all college facilities, such as computer labs, the library, sports facilities, and a tutoring center – at no extra cost. No TOEFL or other standardized test score is required for admission to the ELI – though a 61 internet-based TOEFL score (or equivalent) allows students to enroll in at least one college-level course. Once a student has completed the highest level of any intensive course sequence, he or she may enroll in a college-level course without additional testing. * Intensive Courses The Intensive Courses allow students to study English full-time in order to prepare for college courses. These courses offer flexibility to match students levels in discrete language skills.
ㆍFive levels of proficiency in each language skill are offered.
ㆍThe core curriculum comprises four language skills (16 hours per week).
ㆍElective classes include International Student Life, American Culture through Film, and TOEFL Preparation
ㆍTwo sessions each quarter allow for possible to higher level mid-quarter.
ㆍClasses are small (15 student limit). * College Transition Courses The College Transition Courses allow students to continue to develop their English competency and, at the same time, begin their college degree or certificate program.
ㆍStudents study academic writing, including using sources.
ㆍStudents learn techniques for reading college-level texts.
ㆍSupport classes are available for additional college-level reading and writing techniques and development of advanced discussion techniques.
ㆍStudents take at least one college course at the same time as College Transition courses.
