The Best Time for Language Study Abroad? Check the Philippines' Monthly Temperatures!

Hello, this is Awork Academy.

Japan has four distinct seasons - spring, summer, fall, and winter - but the Philippines has a subtropical climate and, like other Southeast Asian countries, is divided into a "dry season" and a "rainy season."

While there's some variation, it's generally divided as follows.

  • Dry season: November to May

  • Rainy season: June to October

For this reason, many people avoid the rainy season and visit during the dry season.
In particular, December to February - the winter break season - is when the most international students visit the Philippines. This period falls within the dry season, when the weather is stable and the temperature is relatively comfortable, making it the ideal season for language study abroad.

Even though it's a subtropical climate, the weather isn't the same every day.
There are also regional differences, and the dry season tends to have more clear, dry days compared to the rainy season.

For more detailed information, we recommend checking the official forecast from PAGASA, the Philippine weather bureau.
Here, we'll introduce the climate based on the capital, Manila.

1) December to February (Best Season)

This is when the most students come for language study. The climate resembles early summer in Japan, making it the ideal season for both travel and study abroad.

  • Average temperature: 24°C to 30°C

  • Relatively cool for the Philippines

  • Dry season with little rain

  • Well suited to sightseeing and activities

Since it's a comfortable time to spend, it's also recommended for short-term study abroad.

2) March to Early June (The Hottest Period)

This is the hottest season in the Philippines. It's hot enough to make you sweat just standing still, and it stays humid and hot not only during the day but also at night.

If you're staying during this period, we recommend focusing on indoor activities rather than outdoor ones.

3) June to November (Rainy Season)

The rainy season begins in earnest from around June. However, it rarely rains all day long - it's more common to have squall-like heavy rain for about 1 to 2 hours.

If you're visiting during this period, we recommend always bringing a folding umbrella.

Also, since July to September can be affected by typhoons, it's safer to avoid activities in the ocean.

In Summary

This time, we introduced the Philippines' monthly temperatures and the best times for travel and language study abroad.

What we especially recommend is the dry season from December to February, when the weather is stable.

If you're planning a language study trip, we recommend checking the weather information in advance as you prepare.
