About the School
Dorset College is located in a historic building called City Square, renovated in a modern glass-architecture style. City Square houses a number of offices, shops, and restaurants. Dorset College is situated at a major public transit hub, at the gateway to the heart of Vancouver. The second campus, the high school campus, is located in New Westminster, about 15-20 minutes from downtown Vancouver by SkyTrain. Founded in 1981, Dorset College carries on a long tradition as one of the best private schools in BC. It is recognized by the BC Ministry of Education and registered with the PPSEC (Private Post-Secondary Education Commission of British Columbia). All of Dorset College's instructors either hold teaching certificates or are teachers with professional training in their fields, and the school promises its students the highest standard of education. To help non-English-speaking students, counselors who speak foreign languages such as French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean are available. The school helps with all visa matters students need. For students visiting Canada for the first time, it provides every service, from airport pickup to homestay arrangements. Facilities include a library, computer lab, student lounge, and theater. Each year, scholarships of up to $1,000 per semester are awarded to 30 students. Students at the school have the opportunity to take the TOEFL once a month. About 40 students each year have the opportunity for work experience.
School Features
- Guided by the philosophy of "the best education," Dorset College puts students' interests and success first by providing a friendly, student-centered learning environment that emphasizes both English proficiency and academic coursework. It is affiliated with 2 regular universities: after completing the first 2 years of university study at Dorset College, students take the remaining 2 years at one of those 2 universities, and upon successfully completing the entire program they are awarded a bachelor's degree from that university. Admission is in January, May, and September, and the high school program offers an academic track in which students can complete Grades 11 and 12. ESL programs and Diploma programs (Interior Design, Hotel Management, Business, Network Integration Engineering, Environmental Engineering) are also offered.
