About the School
The University of New Brunswick, which has two campuses in Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick, and Saint John, offers its own independent ESL program at each campus. The ESL program at the Fredericton campus consists of 3-week levels, with classes seven days a week from Monday to Sunday and the final week off. The term runs from September to April, and from May to August there is a 5-week summer term. It is a very intensive program in which most students live with Canadian families and must use only English, and it is recognized by many students for its effectiveness in improving skills. Dormitory life is also available during the summer term. The English programs offered at the Saint John college include the ESL Support program, which prepares students with a TOEFL score of about 500-549 for university entry, and English for Academic Purposes, an intensive English program for students with a TOEFL score below 500. In addition, various courses are offered such as Business English and Culture, Practical English Program, and Industry-Specific Training.
