About the School
The ESL program at Herkimer County Community College (HCCC) was established in 1997 and has been teaching English to students who wish to attend college in the United States. Students come from many countries, including Southeast Asia, South America, Africa, and Asia, and those who complete a degree program transfer not only to SUNY institutions but also to many other fine universities. Whether a student takes an ESL course is decided based on their admission documents and HCCC test results. ESL staff advise students on which courses to take. ㆍ Students can take the full ESL course for 1 to 3 semesters. ㆍ Students can take major courses together with ESL classes. ㆍ Students can receive private English tutoring while taking undergraduate classes. The ESL program is located in Johnson Hall in the center of campus. The ESL Center includes offices for ESL instructors, private tutoring rooms, a study room, a student computer lab, and a student lounge. The ESL Center is open throughout the daytime, Monday through Friday, and private tutoring is available by advance reservation. One day a week, it stays open into the evening.
