Rutgers University-New Brunswick (State University of New Jersey)

The English program of American Language Studies (PALS) makes providing the best possible education to international students its top priority. It aims to offer the finest education to international students, whatever their academic, professional, business, or social goals may be. It not only improves reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, but also deepens students' understanding of world cultures, especially American culture. PALS does its utmost to maintain excellence in teaching and strives to meet students' needs on the administrative side. The program tries a variety of teaching methods that take into account each student's intellectual and personal development. The instructors recognize that students entering PALS differ greatly in ability, and they try to maintain as many levels as possible. Classes are taught by qualified, experienced, and dedicated teachers, and class sizes are small. The English program is structured on the principles of acquiring English as a second language, and it does not treat English learning as remedial therapy or approach it in a purely theoretical or pedagogical way. The PALS English program focuses on strengthening students' language and communication skills. The students taking classes are diverse, ranging from homemakers to business executives and office workers. PALS students can use the library, language lab, computer lab, dining hall, recreation facilities, and more.
