Hello everyone, this is AWork Academy.
Previously, for men who had not yet completed their military service,
there were two types of passports,
and when applying for a passport at age 24,
the type of passport you could get
depended on when you applied — something you had to watch out for.
But as of January 2021
the single-use passport system for those who haven't completed military service was abolished,
allowing a 5-year multiple-use passport to be issued to everyone.
< What Is a Single-Use Passport? >

A passport proves the traveler's identity and nationality
and can also be used as ID overseas.
Normally, when going abroad to travel or study,
you apply for a regular passport,
and here, regular passports are divided into single-use and multiple-use passports.
A single-use passport is valid for 1 year,
a passport that lets you travel abroad only once within its validity period.
Since it can only be used once, having to get a single-use passport
every time was inconvenient, and there was also a cost burden,
so being able to get a multiple-use passport is good news!
□ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has abolished the single-use passport system for those aged 25 and older who have not completed military service,
and introduced passport sanctions for those who violate the overseas travel permit obligation.
Following the promulgation of the partial amendment to the "Passport Act" on January 5, 2021,
a 5-year multiple-use passport will now be issued to all men who have not completed their military service.
※ Applies to all men who have not completed military service and apply for a passport
from January 5, 2021 (Tuesday) onward /
A 5-year multiple-use passport is issued after confirming military service status
□ Until now, those who had not completed military service and were aged 18–24 were limited to age 24,
while those aged 25 and older were given
a limited validity period of about 1 year depending on their overseas travel permit period,
but from now on, regardless of overseas travel permit status,
a 5-year multiple-use passport will be issued to everyone who has not completed military service.

□ Since the Military Manpower Administration's existing
overseas travel permit system remains in effect,
those who have not completed military service must, separately from passport issuance,
obtain permission from the Commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration in advance when traveling abroad.
□ Even if your passport is still valid,
this does not mean you have permission to travel abroad,
so those with military service obligations must obtain a separate overseas travel permit when leaving the country,
and those staying abroad must also, no later than 15 days before their permit expires,
obtain an extension of their overseas travel permit through an overseas diplomatic mission.

that the single-use passport system
has been abolished for those who have not completed military service.
