[As of December 2022] Summary of Documents Required for Visa-Free Entry to the Philippines
*This article is based on information as of December 2022.
It does not guarantee entry.
Entry requirements may change at any time, so please be sure to check the latest information from the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and the Philippine Embassy in Japan.
The Philippine government allows Japanese nationals entering for tourism purposes to stay for 30 days without a visa. To enter the Philippines visa-free, the following preparations are required.
① Passport
A passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity is required.
If the validity period is less than 6 months, entry may be denied.
For more details about passports, please contact the Philippine Embassy in Japan.
② Round-trip air ticket (or ticket to a third country)
For visa-free entry, you must present a ticket for departure from the Philippines.
A round-trip ticket departing within 30 days of your arrival date in the Philippines
Or a ticket to a third country
Please prepare one of the above.
Note
If you cannot present a departure ticket, you may be denied boarding or entry.
The number of days of stay is calculated as 30 days, counting your arrival date in the Philippines as day 1.
If you already hold a long-term visa such as a retirement visa or work visa, a round-trip ticket is not required.
③ eTravel registration
Registration is required for everyone, regardless of nationality, age, or vaccination status.
You can register starting 72 hours before your departure (boarding) time.
④ English-language vaccination certificate
How to prepare, by country of vaccination
If vaccinated in the Philippines: VaxCertPH
If vaccinated in Japan: English-language vaccination certificate issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare
If vaccinated outside Japan: check with the Philippine Embassy in Japan
Smartphone apps (such as vaccination certificate apps) can also be used, but since communication issues sometimes occur at the airport, we recommend printing a copy to bring with you.
Notes
Please be sure to prepare it in English.
There is no clear rule on the issue date, but reissuing an old certificate is recommended.
Entry is also possible if you are unvaccinated (conditions apply).
⑤ Negative test certificate
If vaccinated
If you have completed 2 doses (1 dose for Janssen), a negative test certificate is waived regardless of whether you received a booster.
If unvaccinated
A negative antigen test certificate taken within 24 hours of your departure time is required.
It is also possible to be tested in the Philippines after arrival, but
you may have to wait a long time, and
if positive, you will be subject to facility quarantine,
so we recommend testing before departing Japan.
Note that a "COVID quarantine release certificate" is not checked upon entry.
The only criterion for waiving the negative test certificate is vaccination status.
